Birth of Casper Elise Biesinger

I started my Maternity leave technically on Oct 15, however since I was working 4 10’s, I started it that prev Friday the 12th. I went into my doctor appt and was told that they were wrong on my due date. I wasn’t due the 14th, but really the 12th! However since nothing had changed, she told me that IF I was still pregnant on Monday that they would take some tests to make sure tiny was ok, and strip my membranes to see if that would start the process of labor. (Wasn’t looking forward to that; I looked it up and it sounded painful).

I went through the weekend. The 13th I tried to keep busy. As it was Nate’s birthday, I visited his grave for a minute, and then started what I hoped would be a busy day. I attended my friend Tamara’s wedding. She was stunning and I’m so grateful that I was there to be a part of it. From there I went to Karin’s Halloween party. That was way fun. Granted Dave was not happy with all my running around as I could pop any minute. But I had to keep busy so that I wouldn’t worry myself to death.

Sunday night I’m sitting there bored… Then around 0200-ish Monday morning (Oct 15th), I started to have light contractions about every 20 minutes. By 0400 they were 15-20 minutes apart. I told Dave, but sent him to work anyways. I was pretty positive that we would be ok through the day, but had a feeling that we would be in the hospital by nightfall. I had been up all night so I went to bed.

At 0815 I had a contraction so hard that it woke me up. They were coming every 15 minutes. Then at 0900 the back contractions started. OMG I’ve never felt anything like that. The pain started in my lower back and went around my sides and down my legs to my knees. I had another one at 0915, 0945, and 0955. I called my doctor who told me that even though my appt wasn’t until 1300 I could come in as soon as I wanted. As soon as I called them the contractions all but stopped. I almost cried… I wanted her to come so badly.

So I kept a tally of when I had the contractions, got up and ready for the day and went to run my errands. As I was getting to the post office around 1146 the contractions started back up again. Oh I have never wanted to feel pain so much in my life. I called Dad and had him meet me at the doctor’s office instead of picking him up.

When we got to the doctor’s they hooked me up to a monitor. The contractions were coming about 10-15 min apart. The second one was off the charts. Dad waited in the lobby while the doctor checked me. She told me that I was different since Friday, and since labor could go on like this for days it would be better to just get it done. I was to go to the hospital and she would meet me in an hour to break my water. I got out to the lobby and Dad was talking to Dave on the phone. Told him we’re headed to the hospital. Dad and I dropped my car off at his house and we headed up the street. I called my mom and sisters.

Mom arrived just shortly before Dave did, who got there just after the doctor came in to break my water. Tiny did not like that at all. We had to hook the heartbeat monitor to her head. At that point the contractions were more grit your teeth and rock back and forth for a bit. Dave asked for the epidural for me. They checked me at 1530 when the Doctor Robinson arrived and the contractions were 2.5 minutes apart. Then again at 1830, I was only at a 6 I think. Cooper and Amanda came to visit me while we waited. Tazia was going to come up when I was at an 8. They checked again at 2030 and I was at a 9 and 90%. Tazia booked it up to the hospital and got there as Cooper was leaving. We were going to wait an hour, but when they laid me on my side tiny’s heart rate dropped, so we tried the other side and she didn’t like that either so the doctor decided I should just push.

I pushed for an hour. They tried 2 different vacuums and neither of them worked. Tiny was stuck but her heart was recovering after each push, so the doc told me to just keep at it. Tazia was making me laugh and trying to keep Dad from hyperventilating. He was behind the curtain with her and could only hear about 70% of what was said so he was filling in the rest. It was so hot in the room that Dave was sweating and Mom overheated and had to sit down. When tiny finally came out, Tazia had Karin on speaker phone; she grabbed Natalie and came up to the hospital. I ended up with a fever at some point so both Tiny and I had to go through a treatment of antibiotics.

Tiny had to be on the billie-ruben lights. We had to stay until Thursday due to her light treatment and antibiotics. Thursday morning though, the pediatrician came in and said that tiny had pooped her way out the hospital and was free to go home. I did have to make a call to my pediatrician though for the next day to get her levels checked. So Dave picked us up around two when he got off work.

All in all though, I didn’t remember being hungry or in pain. All I wanted to do was hold her. She’s amazing… Can’t get enough of her.
